CARERS FORUMS

Carers Link actively takes part in the Lancashire Carers Forums.  The Forums provide carers with the opportunity to meet regularly with County Councillors and Officers of Lancashire County Council and other agencies so they can be involved in and consulted on developments in services for carers and to raise issues of importance to Carers.

Have Your Say At The Lancashire Carers Forums!

We need your views and ideas to take to the forums so that we can make a difference to the lives of Carers in Lancashire.  We can also add you to our e-consultation mailing list, where we can e-mail you details of local consultations which you can get involved in to make a difference to services for carers.  Please telephone us on 01254 387444 or e-mail info@carerslink.net to find out more or to get involved.

The Lancashire Carers Forum meets at least 5 times per year (usually bi-monthly) at East Cliff County Offices in Preston from 11.00am - 1:30pm. A free buffet lunch is provided and expenses can be claimed by Carers and Former Carers who attend.

Aims Of The Forum

To provide an opportunity for carers and organisations to come together to share information, raise issues and be consulted on relevant matters.

·         To develop an awareness of carers and their needs in Lancashire.

·         To provide a forum for consultation with carers to ensure their needs and opinions are recognised and reflected in future developments and activities of Lancashire’s health, social care and other services.

·         To enable carers to recognise themselves as carers and access support as appropriate.

How Can The Forum Make A Difference?

The Forum is an organisation which is owned by Carer.  A sub group meets separately to the Forum to discuss and advise on specific issues given to them by the full forum and issues which may arise between Forums.  This group make action plans to address these issues and make a difference.

Can I Attend?

YES!!  Carers and former carers are welcome to attend with or without the support of their Development Worker, provided they or the person they care for lives in Lancashire.  If you feel you would like to contribute to this group, please get in touch with Carers Link who will be happy to give you more information.

I Cannot Attend The Meetings – How Can I Get Involved?

If you have or know of any issues which you would like to be raised at the Forums but cannot attend the meetings, please get in touch with us and your Development Worker can raise your issue at the Forum on your behalf and report back to you.  Carers Link is also able to send you copies of the minutes of the meetings so you can keep up to date with what’s happening.

Representation Of Carers At The Lancashire Carers Forum

Jacqueline Dewhurst, a former carer from the Ribble Valley is currently the elected chair of the Forum.  Carers from Hyndburn and Ribble Valley are needed to represent the areas at both the Forum and Sub-Group.  If you would like to volunteer to become a representative, please get in touch with your Carers Development worker.

Parent Carer and Minority Ethnic Carers Forums

It is recognised that the needs and issues of parent carers and minority ethnic carers can be very different to those of other carers.  In addition to the Lancashire Carers Forum there are two dedicated forums for Parent Carers and Minority Ethnic Carers; The Parent Carers Forum and the Lancashire Asian Carers Forum.  If you would like to attend these forums please contact Carers Link on 01254 387444.

REMEMBER:
The best people to make a difference to services in Lancashire are you

- the CARERS!!!
